Feeding Cattle Shipping Into Iowa Increases

Burned by Gasoline Explosion In Greene

A. C. Winterburn of Greene suffered severe burns when a lantern he kept near his gasoline fill exploded while he poured fuel into his car after dark. The flames damaged the car and burned his hands, which were dressed by a physician with aid from a hired man.

Sudden Death Shocks Ludlow Farmer Frank E Teeple

Frank E Teeple, a well known Ludlow township farmer of 61, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon while driving from his farm to town. His body was found near the Charles Dep ping place three miles from town after he fell from a small load of hay. He suffered heart disease for years and is survived by his family. He was born October 8, 1854 in Winneshiek county.

Burglars Take Diamond Ring From Perrin Home

Burglars entered W. Perrin’s Vinton residence and stole a diamond ring valued at 225 belonging to Miss Vander Beck of North Dakota who was visiting. They also took Floyd Towner’s gold watch kept as a family keepsake. The unlocked damp-swollen door aided entry. no clues exist. A reward is offered for the watch.

Lineman Bush Bitten by Rattlesnake Near Bertram

A telephone lineman named Bush was bitten by a rattlesnake while working near Bertram. He was taken to Cedar Rapids for treatment as initial reports claimed he was in a perilous state. Local exchange workers report he is now progressing satisfactorily.

Farm near Marshalltown fetches record per acre price

Albert Betten buys 60 acre farm owned by Hiram Showalter one and a half miles south of Marshalltown for 464.66 dollars per acre. The total price appears to set a county record for small tracts. Betten plans the land for a home.

Fined for Stealing Beer in Dover Larceny Case

Three Dover youths faced a district court sitting by Judge W. J. Springer for larceny of a barrel of beer from a neighbor. All pleaded guilty and were fined a total of 8500 under a new information law allowing county attorneys to file an information in lieu of an indictment.

Immense Pedigreed Bull Sold to Massed Exhibit

The largest pedigreed bull in the United States, claimed by owner, was sold by W. H. Riddle of Chapin to C. E. Gibbs of Klemme. The Bates strain bull weighs 2500 pounds now and will be shown with Gibbs's Short Horn herd at the North Iowa fair in Mason City next week. A special stall was built for the animal.

City Council Proceedings August 11 1915

The August 11 1915 City Council meeting opened with Mayor Baker presiding and all members present to hear objections to the sewer system resolution. No objections were offered and the resolution with amendments passed. Citizens Berger Hanson and Robt Bergeson requested extensions of water mains in Ronan’s addition and Second ward respectively. both petitions were granted. The council agreed to fund half the cost of a new sidewalk to the cement bridge linking the wards, approved paying Moore Sieg Coast Co 627.09 for water mains, and voted to gravel blocks on Decorah Avenue. Meeting adjourned to August 16 at 7:30 p.m.
