Police believe Domestic Lewis D Walton of Birmingham killed himself on a Woodlawn train using a powerful explosive. Walton carried a ten thousand dollar accident policy. He was killed with two others and many injured. The report mentions an open Red Cross relief appeal and other distant incidents in Tennessee and New York.
Teutonic allies push east from the mountains and north from Wallachia into Moldavia as Russians and Roumanians resist at multiple fronts. Russian forces retreat on the Suchitza river. pushbacks reported toward plains from the Oitu s and Putna valleys. A Russian attack near Hill 208 is said repulsed with steady fighting and no decisive outcome. In Macedonia British attempts near Lake Doiran stall. Entente ministers meet in Rome and agree to closer coordination as they close their four power conference.

A large delegation from Decatur and Albany attends a Birmingham Good Roads meeting aimed at routing the Jackson Highway via Decatur Albany Birmingham to New Orleans.
Alabama Field Secretaries announce a three week State tour with 207 meetings in nine cities January 8 to 28. Separate sessions train county officers and workers in all Sunday School divisions. Organised adult Bible class rallies and community study circles are included with host churches providing venues and accommodations for neighboring counties.
The annual meeting of the City National Bank of Decatur Alabama will be held in its banking rooms on Wednesday January 10 1917 at two o'clock p m for the election of a Board of Directors and other business. W B Shackelford cashier dated December 4 1916.
The newly elected county officers will assume duties next Monday. Longtime probate judge William E. Skeggs is succeeded by L. P. Troup, and circuit court clerk Al Blackwell by James Draper. Frank Davis becomes inferior court judge. John Green may succeed Davis as probate clerk. Morgan County Law and Equity court ends, with O Kyle and Robert Brickell as two circuit judges.
Mrs Ed M Wallen died Tuesday afternoon at Mouton Heights after a stroke last Saturday. She was the wife of contractor Ed M Wallen who built the Morgan County courthouse. Survived by daughter Mrs J B Guffin of Birmingham, a Chicago sister, and a western brother. Funeral Wednesday with interment in the city cemetery.
A gun explosion at the Gullien residence near Lacy Springs instantly killed Mrs. Andy Gullien and seriously injured her three children. The incident occurred days ago and only now reached local news. The Odd Fellows district convention for Morgan Cullman Lawrence and Limestone counties met here Tuesday night. Rev. E L Goodwin of Inglenook has accepted a call as pastor of West Decatur Presbyterian Church.
Judge William E. Skeggs and Hon. W. T. Lowe announce a new law partnership to begin next week with offices in the Scott block. Judge Thomas W. Wert and Hon. Melvin Hutson form another firm to commence practice immediately with offices in the Olshine Building.
O H Mahaffey chief engineer of Life and Casualty Building Nashville reports Tanlac restored his health after two years of stomach trouble and weight loss. He gained forty pounds and feels stronger, with ulcers and indigestion easing after using the medicine. He lists local retailers in Decatur Trinity Flint and other Alabama towns.
W. W. Archibald of Chattanooga Tennessee has been elected secretary of the Albany Board of Commerce and will devote full time to advertising Albany to the outside world.
