Approximately 500 dollars in damages occurred when a 1955 Chevrolet driven by 23 year old Charles E. Eaves of Toney slid into a ditch on Old U S 31 north of Athens. The accident happened at 5 45 p m Sunday during rain as Eaves turned off U S 31 onto Ardmore Highway near Magnusson's Motorcycle Shop. Eaves reportedly was uninjured.

Hamburg based Pamir, a four masted bark, vanished after signaling loss of sails about 550 miles southwest of the Azores. Of 86 aboard 17 crew, 7 officers, 62 cadets including 25 on first trip. Fire destroys P. J. Woodard Department Store in Cullman
A fire of undetermined origin yesterday morning completely destroyed the P. J. Woodard Department Store on First Avenue West in Cullman. The blaze caused about 85 000 in damage and was only partly covered by insurance. Firefighters worked from 10 45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Several men were overcome by smoke but no serious injuries were reported. The 1912 brick three story building had housed Woodard’s department for 27 years.
