The Tennessee Valley crop is about three weeks late but grades improve with quality. Most bales so far meet seven-eighths inch staple, some inch staples ginned locally. Through today about 450 bales have been processed versus 1,000 to 1,100 at the same point last year. Ginners promise long hours to serve farmers, hoping a heavy season follows. The improved quality and favorable weather favor higher prices for better cotton.

Body of Collings Found in Bay at Oyster Bay
The body of Benjamine Collings, 38, an engineer from Stamford, Conn., was found floating in Long Island Sound near where the cruiser Penguin was located. His hands and feet were bound and his head injured. Mrs. Collings, held for six days, said two men tossed him overboard after boarding the cruiser with Barbara Collings aboard. Police indicated the discovery supports her account and a wider search for the attackers is underway.
