Forces have converged within 75 miles of Paris. Analysts say the clash may determine the war’s course as both sides deploy large armies and strategic positions amid heavy fighting and shifting fronts.
Late London dispatch says Germans retreat as heavy reinforcements rush to the firing line. The battle began Monday with Germans rear guard and Allies advance guard clashing and the action now in full swing.
London reports German forces slowly retreating along the front while Paris notes a decisive clash is under way. Allies offensive extends 120 miles toward the Meuse as six German armies try to halt the surge, with heavy infantry cavalry and artillery action near Noyon and Paris.
Paris reports Allied forces have pressed the German lines, forcing evacuations of twelve towns as fresh American and Allied troops join the attack to drive the invaders back. The advance centers on renewed efforts to break through and sustain momentum.
