International News Service reports Petrograd says Austria will seek peace terms following defeats in Galacia. Discontent at Germany’s troop shortfall and internal unrest push Vienna toward favorable terms.
Vienna reports that a battle has begun near Limberg with Austrian and German forces co operating against Russian troops. The engagement marks a coordinated effort by allied forces in the region amid World War I hostilities.
Paris reports the German right wing in retreat as central fighting persists. General Guellieni, Paris Military Governor, says the German front is now 35 miles farther from Paris than five days ago, while desperate battles continue to hold positions.
An unnamed American diplomat told International News Service that peace cannot be stated as certain but news from Washington may come soon. It was later learned that Jacob Schutz, actively pursuing peace, has traveled to Washington.
London reports Sir John French, commander of the British in France, has submitted a war department report detailing fighting from August 22 to now. He states the retreat from Mons was perilous and the British were repeatedly in danger of annihilation by a superior German force.
About 40,000 German sailors arrived at Ostend to replace troops sent to the front in France. The arrival was reported from Brussels via London and marks a shift in manpower for the German line in France.
Ambassador Page reports from London that Britain will continue the war until defeat of Germany and Austria or their military collapse. Peace efforts are deemed fruitless, with officials suggesting no official British decision yet but a strong commitment to ongoing combat.
London reports the British cruiser Pathfinder was blown up by a German submarine in the North Sea with 246 lives lost. The press bureau confirmed the destruction resulted from submarine attack, not a floating mine, marking the first submarine sinking of an enemy vessel near the British coast.
A Japanese cruiser arrived outside the three mile limit today near San Francisco, signaling a maritime development during the day. The encounter occurred as tensions and patrols intensified in the region.
Rome dispatch says the Austrian Embassy issued an official statement denying reports that Emperor Joseph is ill. The note asserts the emperor is in good health.
Trains carry wounded into Vienna as fighting on the Sala and Poland front continues. Soldiers say Russian forces fight like demons and push forward with bayonet charges. Most wounded are young, suggesting veterans are kept back. Continued on page two.

The case of Dave Walker charged with knocking a man into the Tennessee River near a bridge is set for trial in the haw and Equity Court today. The body of the victim was found downstream, with investigation tying the death to an apparent assault on a boat upstream. The state argues Walker feloniously struck the man into the water.
Ory Cohen announces a major deal to place 5000 inches of advertising in the Decaturs Daily over the next year. He says the winter stock is among the biggest yet, bought in New York at prewar prices to offer bargains. The public is urged to watch for forthcoming promos in the Daily.
New Orleans on September 10 the state of Louisiana filed a suit in state courts to cancel the license of the American Sugar Refining Company alleging it is an obnoxious trust and harmful to the public.
T. B. Potter has accepted the agency for "Great Demonstration" a key work on Bible prophecy. The publication in its preface notes that the book uses pictorial visions of the prophets as its basis of light. Potter plans to call on the people of Morg to engage interest and support.
Mrs. Bolling and two children return to Waco Texas after three days of searching for J B Bolling who left his wife on Second Avenue and Morton Street to visit Decatur. He was last seen in New Decatur at Crescent View Creamery and provided no trace since. Officials seek any sightings and describe him as dressed in blue serge.
