A Decatur case reports L. Smith a local butcher connected to a shooting of a 12 year old youth. Police and investigators are evaluating motive and sequence of events. No further victims are confirmed at this time.
R L Smith a Decatur butcher shot and killed a 12 year old black boy named Andrew Horton in his Church street shop yesterday afternoon around 4. The clerk on duty declined to talk and Smith was absent from the shop when reporters called. The incident involved a pistol described as unloaded. Father mentioned but no further details available.
C M St Clair plans to leave Saturday at 7 am for Huntsville to join an auto parade from Nashville to Huntsville. The run aims to spark interest in good roads and promote Decatur automobile owners joining the event to show Nashville that Decatur is on the map. Prizes will be awarded when the Nashville party arrives, with a dance and supper that night.

W W Garnett a Decatur wholesale and retail merchant was operated on for appendicitis this morning at his home on Oktreet. Dr Dinsmore Dr Bailey and Dr Watson performed the procedure. His condition was serious but friends express hope for a speedy recovery. This was his first attack.

United Press reports in New Orleans of a abortive hold up near Micheaud by three men using dynamite and nitroglycerin. The bandits aimed at a freight train ahead of passenger No. 1 but fled when detected. One suspect, Howard Edwards of Jupiter Florida, died of injuries in custody after claiming a dual personality linked to cocaine use.
In Birmingham on September 6 a dynamite blast shook Jake Moull's home injuring him his wife and five children. The Italian merchant suspects the attack was meant to murder the entire family by the so called black hand. The blast blew them from beds and shattered rooms.
The probability of a strike was eliminated when President Roach of the Street Railways agreed to a single arbitrator board to decide the dispute.
Chief of Police Davidson returned from Birmingham with R. M. Calloway in custody. Calloway allegedly entered Crow and CP hardware, pocketed several pistols, and tried to sell them in New Decatur. Description was wired to Birmingham authorities. preliminary hearing set before Justice Butler tomorrow morning.
Prof W F Jones superintendent of the New Decature Public Schools completes the faculty list for the coming year naming H F Gilmore principal at the high school and a slate of teachers by grade across the city including Miss Eunice for English and drawing and Miss Kathleen for mathematics with assignments in the second ward and East End Colored Schools and Oklahoma Colored Schools led by G M Murphy.
G. W. Wortham, ex baggage master of the Southern at Decatur, has perfected an automatic coal bin loader to work with the coal loader. The device deposits coal directly into the fireman’s bins, reducing effort and expense. A large model will be built at Southern yards soon for demonstrations.
Delite theatre invites college men to attend this afternoon and tonight as guests to witness the Intercollegiate Regatta and the film Two Other Good Feature Reels. Mrs. John Minor won the $5 prize that night. The Deltic orchestra scored with The Joys composed by Mr. Davis.
