Decatur schools face funding squeeze warns Supt. Sellers
Decatur School Superintendent Dr Curtis Sellers warned Kiwanis members of a looming financial bind as local costs rose 423000 this year for teacher raises begun in 1969. He noted the district must hire 80 to 100 more teachers annually to maintain accreditation and asked the city for 324000 to cover the mandated raises. The council feared it cannot legally fund the amount from a 1 million revenue sharing windfall, risking accreditation and instructional quality.
