Glotzbach Added To 000 Field For American 500 Trials
Rockingham North Carolina AP Charlie Glotzbach was added to the field as time trials began for the American 500. The 38 year old Edwardsville Indiana driver will race a 1973 Ford with a rotating crew after earlier controversy over an illegal carburetor restrictor plate at Charlotte. NASCAR tested engines in Rockingham with seven technical experts, delaying practice. Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough led the Charlotte event, with Yarborough keeping first prize after protest rulings.
