Decatur Sewing Bees Turn Pain Into Quilts for Charity
At Medical Park Convalescent Center a group of six or more women meet every Tuesday for two and a half hours to hand stitch bedspread sized quilts. Residents aged 70 and up, many with arthritis and limited sight, craft patterns like anvil and windmill on rosebud backgrounds. Virgie Berryhill, 89, estimates near a hundred quilts, while others offer moral support and conversation, making the sessions a labor of love beyond a mere pastime.
