Wings of Do-X Burned as Ship Rests in Lisbon Harbor
A fire ripped through the Do-X seaplane moored in Lisbon, destroying a wing and leaving the giant craft listing in the harbor. Fuel tanks had recently been filled, and a detected electrical fault is blamed for igniting the wing’s inflammable lining. The Sea Watch rescue crew battled the blaze as the vessel sagged with its remaining wing.

Fire on DO-X causes delay to Cadiz departure
Fire broke out today on the German sea plane DO-X anchored in Lisbon harbor. The giant flying boat, built in Switzerland, arrived after a European tour and planned a New York flight via the Azores but abandoned the plan due to bad weather. Departure to Cadiz tomorrow was postponed.

Looted Safe Found Near Flint Creek Bridge
Local police recovered a 300 to 400 pound safe found by Will Jones about a hundred yards from the Flint Creek bridge on Somerville road. The safe, a Victor Safe and Lock Co. product, showed pried door and damaged combination but no identifying papers. It was taken to the Johnston Street city hall for owner identification.

Trans Ocean Air Mail Service Up for Transatlantic Route
The post office department moved toward inaugurating a trans Atlantic air mail service with bids to open December 29 for a route from New York to Norfolk or Charleston to Hamilton Bermuda and the Azores or other European link. The ten year contract begins June 1 1931. Boeing pilots must be US citizens and equipment must be built domestically. Rates up to 2 dollars a mile for 300 pounds and 1 dollar per pound per 1000 miles apply. Extensions to South American routes hinted.
