The Associated Press reports a 102 hour Thanksgiving period ending Sunday with 345 traffic deaths, 33 fire deaths, and 108 other accidents totaling 500. Comparisons with 1958 1961 show similar tolls, while the National Safety Council notes holiday risk but says Thanksgiving mortality is not greatly higher than other weekends.

Western diplomats described a proposed global belt of sealed seismic stations to monitor a test ban as extremely complex and not fool proof.
