Government plan would break up North Alabama congressional district

The Justice Department filed a redistricting plan in U S District Court in Montgomery to split the Eighth District home to Rep Bob Jones of Scottsboro for 25 years The proposal would move Morgan Lawrence Limestone Lauderdale Colbert Cullman Winston Marion Lamar Fayette and Franklin into the Sixth District and place Madison Jackson Marshall DeKalb Blount St Clair Etowah in the Seventh Jones criticized the plan calling it a plot while supporters urged the Legislature to propose its own map before the Nov 15 deadline and the panel could redraw lines for the state

North Alabama Health Planning Agency Pushes Regional Merge

The 13 county North Alabama Health Planning Agency approved a resolution to disband the Tri County Appalachian Regional Health Planning Commission and merge into the regional body. Officials aim for B sub-agency status under the A state plan by March 1972 as talks consider adding 10 more North Alabama counties.

Morgan Man Fatally Shot in Lacey's Spring Mobile Home

Morgan County Coroner Guy Holloway said an autopsy would be performed today on a man shot Tuesday night at a Lacey's Spring mobile home. Sheriff John McBride identified the victim as Thomas Wayne Dalton in his late 30s. a suspect is held with charges expected later today.

Residents approve Moulton Heights tax to close school

Moulton Heights residents voted 67 to 57 to approve a 5.5 mill property tax, securing about 8 000 dollars annually for the Morgan County Board of Education and paving the way to close Moulton Heights Elementary School by January 14 1972. The plan requires temporary classrooms and no Health Department opposition for pupil transfers from Moulton Heights to West Morgan School in Trinity after sewage improvements. Local leader Gil Aldrich credited a mobilized campaign and noted attendance more than double the previous April vote.

Dill Elected President Of Decatur Ministerial Group

Dr. Laurence Dill pastor of Central United Methodist Church was elected president of the Decatur Ministerial Association Tuesday. He will assume duties Jan 1 replacing Rev. Lawrence Maines of First Christian Church. Other officers elected include Rev. Robert Slack vice president and Rev. Paul Ransford secretary treasurer.
