FAIRBANKS Alaska November 13 Six men were killed and 18 injured in a fiery crash at Eielson Field when a C 47 transport failed to take off and struck a B 50 bomber from Tucson Aziz. The injured were sent to hospitals at Eielson and Ladd Fields. The B 50 bomber was part of five aircraft that flew from Arizona to Alaska on a training mission.
Southern Democrats threaten filibuster if leaders alter Senate rules to push civil rights measures. Senator McClellan says Dixie lawmakers will resist cloture expansion to include motions, not just bills, risking weeks of marathon sessions and paralyzing other business.
An unexplained blast and fire aboard the Swedish motorship Los Angeles in Port Tacoma killed two men and injured at least six. City fire crews battled three weekend fires with quick action. At 1:20 PM Saturday a blaze at 523 East Cain caused by defective wiring was extinguished with no loss. A Friday 5:43 PM fire at 615 Grove also produced no loss. Producers Gin 2 saw a small loss from sparking flames at 5:02 PM Friday.
Police chief said a warrant charging Vester Rice Wilson alias Edward J. Smith for automobile theft in Florida was received from Atlanta officers. Smith, with Otis Oden Bryant, is held in Atlanta and charged in Decatur with assault to murder robbery and grand larceny. They were captured in Villa Rica after Roy Mooney was shot in Decatur on October 26.
Joe Lipscomb of the Joe Wheeler Electric Membership Corporation says an REA loan approved in Washington on Friday will fund about 700 miles of new power lines in Morgan and Lawrence counties. The $1,985,000 loan, called the E allocation, aims to serve about 10,000 customers once completed, up from 4,377 now served. The project totals about 1,567 miles of line with current lines at 487.12 miles, plus 225 miles under the C contract and 200 miles under the D contract. The loan, one of the largest for a Tennessee Valley co operative, will finance system improvements and a two way radio system amid rising prices. See JOE on Page 2.
Rewards totaling 11200 spurred the hunt for the rape slaying of 18 year old Theresa Foster in Boulder Colorado. The University of Colorado board of regents offered 10000 for information leading to the arrest. The Camera newspaper collected 1200 in local contributions to add to the pool. Foster, a freshman engineering student, disappeared Tuesday after a Catholic students meeting. Her body was found Thursday by a creek nine miles south of town. A coroner noted she was killed and dumped from a bridge railing. The Denver Post hired Erle Stanley Gardner to report on the case and criminologist Dr. Lemoyne Snyder to assist. Police checked recent activity of known sex offenders and questioned absent students with cars.
President Truman took his family to Fort Jefferson in Key West Florida for a history lesson during a Florida vacation. He offered no new policy statements beyond pledging to press for a New Deal expansion while his aides expect actions on Taft Hartley repeal civil rights and health reform.

Defendants Dennis and Lina McClendon of Decatur escape $127 000 damages in Montgomery Montgomery County circuit court verdict rendered Saturday after 40 minutes of deliberation. McCormicks claimed breach of contract by the harness maker for failing to deliver merchandise to Montgomery National Leather Co. The case originally sought $177 000 but was reduced by $50 000. Four people were injured in weekend accidents on Decatur streets. Mrs. Joe Ables of the Bluebird lunch room was treated at Baugh Wylie clinic after being struck while stepping from a bus near the Bluebird. A driver rushed her to the clinic. she was treated and released. Three teenage boys Alvin Landers Thomas Wilson and Harold Wallace were slightly hurt when a motorbike collided with a car at Sixth Avenue E and Gordon Drive. The car was driven by Fink Byars of 612 Fourth Avenue W and the bike sustained minor damage. Police provided details and estimates of vehicle damage.
VIDALIA Ga Nov 3 Buyers failed to appear at the 11 year pecan sale as sellers offered more than 150000 pounds of pecans. The absence left buyers missing from the event in Vidalia Georgia.
A double tragedy hits Morgan County as a electrocution death on a Danville pike follows a fatal motorbike crash near Danville city limits. The Hugheses died after their car hit a high tension wire, and Delbert Higdon 19 and Dalton Mason 13 died when a car struck their motorbike.
