Dr. Bob Jones began his campaign in a service crowded beyond capacity with extra chairs and foyer seating. The event was sponsored by Moulton Heights Fairview and Grace Baptist Churches, with a 7 30 p m service to follow and the public invited.
Brents Preuit Jr of Nashville, a former Decatur resident, died Saturday at his home after illness. Graveside services were to be held at City Cemetery at 2 30 p m with Father John Horgan officiating. He is survived by his mother Frances Preuit and sister Mrs Thomas R Medlin. Phillips Robinson Co handled arrangements.
The Supreme Court unanimously struck down racial segregation in public parks playgrounds and golf courses. It upheld a lower court ruling that separate but equal facilities are dead and overturned other rulings on school segregation. The decision involved Baltimore Beach and Maryland sites and was issued in a brief unsigned order.
Supporters of Adlai E Stevenson rely on Speaker Sam Rayburn to block an anti Stevenson coalition in the South. Senator Russell predicts Stevenson will win the Democratic nomination and may become president. Rayburn leads a Texas effort to shift state party machinery away from Gov Allan Shivers who backs a broad slate. Johnson's moderates risk allowing extremists to influence the platform.
The Associated Press reports Alabama’s weekend traffic deaths rose to five, with a Mobile fire adding one to the toll. Charlie George Haynes, 20, of Five Points died in Point, Georgia, after traveling at high speed on the State Line Highway. Willlie George Stover, 21, of Leighton perished when his ride skidded on a rural road, and Billy Ray Owens, 18, of Tarrant City was killed in a crash north of Athens on U.S. Highway 31.
The Morgan County United Fund reached 88 percent of its 94 800 goal with 84 173 49 in cash and pledges. As the drive enters its final week closing Nov 12, general chairman Quince Eddens called a meeting of all division chairmen for Tuesday at 9 30 AM at the City Electric auditorium. Walter Jackson led the Decatur school division and Mrs H B Norwood directed special gifts.
Mayor H R Summer of Decatur proclaims November 6 12 American Education Week in the city in recognition of Schools Your Investment in America. The resolution urges citizens to visit schools and support public education with the Teachers Association coordinating activities.

Greenwood Mississippi grand jury opens with a Till County Leflore panel considering a kidnapping case as top business. The 20 member panel may include Negroes as selections proceed.
Voters in twelve states go to the polls tomorrow in off year state and local elections. Governor races include Kentucky and Mississippi, with state legislatures also on the ballot in Kentucky New Jersey and Virginia. City elections occur in Boston Cleveland Indianapolis and many smaller cities across fourteen states.
Funeral arrangements were to be completed today for Mrs. Winston Stuart Garth Sr., Athens matron who died shortly after midnight at Vanderbilt Hospital Nashville after a 10 day illness. She was with her husband and five of six children when the heart ailment and stroke proved fatal.

An 18 year old, Billy Ray Owens of East Lake Boulevard Tarrant, died after losing control of a late model Pontiac on U S 31 north near Athens and crashing into a utility pole. Passenger Gerald Jerome Barber, 16, of Birmingham suburb, suffered brain injuries and remained unconscious at Athens Limestone Hospital. State Patrol investigated the crash.
In Jerusalem a new wave of charges of violations of the Palestine armistice challenges peacemakers as Israel accuses Egyptian troops of entrenching in the demilitarized Sinai zone. An Israeli Foreign Office spokesman said Israel is aware of Egyptian troop presence opposite last week’s El Sabha clash.
Katie Kash hints at at least one win with possible challengers still to come forward. She notes the $750 pot winner will void the new Bonanzagram puzzle printed Friday and Sunday.
A coroner's jury ruled James Fred Hawkins died accidentally from carbon monoxide or suffocation in his Arab Alabama jail cell. Hawkins, 33, a Redstone Arsenal employee, was found Oct. 20 on a burning mattress. the coroner attributed the fire to a cigarette. He had been jailed on a traffic violation.
Tito and Dulles held a seven hour talks on Eastern Europe independence for satellite states and steps toward German settlement. They discussed Middle East tensions with Israel and Egypt and noted Tito’s planned visit to Nasr in December.
In Denver President Eisenhower weighs whether to leave the hospital Friday based on doctors advice. Dr Paul Dudley White will assess his condition before he sets a return date to Washington. White House spokesman Hagerty said the best guess remains that he will fly once medical clearance is given.
