Allied Counteractions and German Advances Near Belgium
The report notes heavy fighting persists with Allied counter-attacks in multiple spots. French forces conduct a fierce counter-offensive in the Cambrai sector along the Scheldt while British and Belgian troops push south in Belgium to aid beleaguered units and deter further German advances. Officials say the Scheldt crossing south of Brussels increases Allied peril, while a temporary slowdown may reflect German needs to regroup and resupply for a broader push.
