Governor Albert Brewer said Alabama will assume responsibility for peace on the Tuscaloosa campus and that action is being taken against students and faculty involved in campus protests. He pledged expulsions or firings for those who violated laws and stirred disorder.
North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces push toward Phnom Penh from Cambodia's west while U S and South Vietnamese troops widen patrols in the sanctuary area. Cambodian defenders around Kompong Cham request aid as Tonh Bet falls under rebel control and several Cambodian units go missing or fight to hold.
A witness told ex Governor Wallace he had proof that Governor Brewer and Docks Director Houston Feaster were tied to Guardian Savings Investment Corp. Secretary of State records show both as incorporators in 1967 with Wallace’s brother among them. Brewer resigned from the board in 1967 or 1968 and retains stock while Feaster says he sold. The article then shifts to Vietnam war dispatches detailing Viet Cong and Cambodian fighting, with Allied operations, casualties, and territorial movements across Cambodia and neighboring Laos.

President Nixon nominates Col. Elizabeth Hoisington director of the Women's Army Corps and Col. Anna Mae Hays chief of the Army Nurse Corps for promotion to temporary brigadier general. Hoisington enlisted in 1942 and led the WAC since 1966. Hays served as an operating room nurse in 1942 and later became Army Nurse Corps chief.
Morgan County campaign coordinator Dr. H T Sammons endorsed Gov Albert Brewer in the June 2 runoff. He plans to retrace Woods supporters urging votes for Brewer and said county workers may decide independently. Sammons said he campaigned for Woods for his business friendly platform and will now urge Woods backers to back Brewer.
A 21 year old local man, Johnny Wayne Hargrove, is charged with four counts of armed robbery, grand larceny of an auto, no driver's license, and violation of the Firearms Act. Huntsville police hold him on these counts for robberies at Royal Enco Service Station on November 22 and 25, 1969, and Dudley Spur Service Station on January 20, 1970, with an auto theft from Littcell Motor Co. on May 1.
Morgan Lawrence Limestone and Cullman counties prepare for a June 2 runoff with hundreds of new voters anticipated. Last day to register in Limestone Lawrence and Cullman is Monday. Morgan counties allow registration Monday and Tuesday. Registrar hours vary by county with morning and afternoon openings.
