Decatur Planning Moves on Bonds and New Plant
The industrial board will own the additional property and bond delivery is set for Monday with Hendrix & Mayes in Birmingham. Ten acres will be released from mortgage on payment of 35000 to the trustee First National Bank of Montgomery for bond redemption. Bonds totaling 5700000 will be secured by a mortgage to State National Bank of Decatur for the new project. The commission approved a 13831 telemetering system for the Decatur Gas Co to compute and monitor use. Mayor Blackburn praised the project as a growth step for Decatur and the gas department’s money-saving plan. An appropriation of 15 was granted to the Health Department for a salary increase for the health inspector. The board approved up to 500000 for completion of Austinville High School and a new Southwest Decatur elementary school without new bonds, funds to come from a prior issue. The mayor may seek easements across the Department of Interior game reserve for drainage. Miller Stevenson & Baker may refurbish the master plan for about 2000. North Alabama Engineering Co. will plan the Brookmeade Road unpaved portion. Planning Commission may hire a full-time planner with underwritten partial salary for two years, then administrative growth. A. J. Coleman noted the move as a step forward.
