Negro held in theft of car near Athens
George Gray was booked in Limestone county jail at Athens on theft charges after taking a car from W P Dozier in the 500 block of Bank Street around 9 15 p m. He was arrested five miles north in a field off Bee Line highway by State Highway Patrolmen Kumpe Ayers and J P Harris who said Gray admitted the theft. The arrest occurred about 9 30 p m as the patrolmen chased the vehicle which they said Gray was in when captured.

A. S. Goforth died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Benevolent Society Hospital of a heart ailment. He was 46 and had been ill three weeks. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Central Baptist Church with burial at City Cemetery. Survived by two daughters Eddie and Marjorie. a son Henry. two sisters Kate Hill and Mrs. William Broadway. two brothers J. Dan in Athens and P. C. Goforth in Louisville. Pallbearers listed. He was longtime salesman for Decatur Tron and Steel Company and a member of Central Baptist Church.

Spencer Named to City Board of Education in Decatur
Bruce L. Spencer, 28, elected unanimously by the Decatur city aldermen to fill the unexpired term of the late L. R. Nash on the city board of education. Born near Somerville and a longtime Decatur resident, he is a graduate of Albany High School class of 1926 and attended Emory University. Spencer is active in Central Methodist Church, scholastic leaders, and athletics, earning nine high school letters and participating in Emory sports. He works with Sooma Works and is regarded as a leading young businessman. He will be installed at the regular meeting tonight at the junior high school.
