Alabama Senate Poised To Pick Up Reapportionment Bills
The Alabama Senate faces a tight timetable as it weighs a House approved redistricting bill aimed at meeting a May 17 federal court deadline. If approved, amendments may be added to satisfy Jefferson County bloc leaders, otherwise the court-ordered plan could take effect. Rep Hugh Merrill seeks districts with population equality, while Rep Gred Gray notes the House plan reduces black districts and may affect court consideration.
