A flurry of late-inning hits and pitching brilliance highlights baseball action. Stan Williams saved a two-hitter for Cleveland after a Siebert exit in cold weather as the Indians won their third straight with three consecutive three-hitters. The Yankees, buoyed by Jose Cardenal and Leon Wagner, pulled ahead in the bottom of the seventh. Al Downing allowed a grand slam to Peters but Chicago’s lefty struck out nine for his first win after three losses. The Red Sox fell to the A’s as Bert Campaneris and Ramon Webster produced key plays and Chuck Dobson earned the win.
