Emperor Haile Selassie orders all able bodied Ethiopians near Addis Ababa to march north tomorrow led by Ras Getachou to stop the Italian advance. He urges five days of rations and vows to fight until the last soldier and inch.
Rome reports a general mobilization for Adunata to celebrate victory over Ethiopia. Badoglio says southern forces occupy Daggah Bur after seizure of Sasa Baneh in a 16 day clash. He cites enemy losses above 5,000 and Italian casualties near 1,850 with 50 officers dead or wounded.
Funeral rites for Mrs. W. W. Owens 57 died Wednesday night at her Eva route 1 home were held at Bethel at 2 pm with Rev. H. N. Patton. Interment was by Drinkard Howell of Falkville. Survived by husband seven daughters and two sons. Lived entire life in Eva route 1.
Neal Bass a well known Trinity citizen broke his arm this morning while cranking a car at his home. He received treatment from a physician and was resting comfortably this afternoon.
The Decatur Pilot Club will host a benefit dance on Friday May 8 at the Civic Center on Ferry Street. Plans promise an enjoyable occasion and the public is invited.
Four men robbed a Highland Park bank at Woodland and Oakland avenues near 11 a.m. taking about 40 000 dollars. One woman was injured in the ensuing struggle. A false holdup alarm from the suburb’s north end may have drawn police away from the scene. The bank sits opposite the Chrysler plant.
District Attorney Geoghan said he expects to reveal the full tale of how Paul H. Wendel, disbarred Trenton lawyer, was kidnapped and forced to confess to abducting and murdering the Lindbergh baby. He anticipates indictments of Sol Marcus and notes five others already charged. Marcus, a Trenton resident, may be extradited after bail terms. Previously, Weiss the Brooklyn cab driver remains jailed in Ohio.
Rep Marion Zioncheck was fined 66 dollars for reckless driving speeding and disorderly conduct after failing to appear in court in Alexandria Virginia. A 200 dollar bond was forfeited with Judge James R Duncan warning he would arrest the congressman if seen again in the city.
John H. Frese a 50 year old retired wholesale furniture dealer was found shot to death in his Oakland apartment. Lavyna Larrieux 25 said Frese was killed while trying to stop her from suicide and that she was his common law wife. She was found dazed nearby and told police of the alleged incident.
John A. Paten, 35, editor of the Sunday magazine section of The Times, died today in Chattanooga Tennessee of a heart attack.
Hundreds of students participate in a May Day festival at Benson Field starting at 2 pm with a pageant led by Miss Mary Ethel Williams as Queen of the May. The parade features a century old queen’s carriage, fairies and brownies, a large senior and junior high court, and a program including May-pole dances and various stage numbers.
R T Simpson of Florence and candidate for congress will speak at the intersection of Moulton Street and Second Avenue Saturday afternoon at 4 o clock.
Jimmy Coutsas known as Jimmy in Derby circles travels to Louisville for the 62nd Derby. Since 1921 he has attended the event 16 straight times, watching the parade to the post inColorful, thunderous fashion. Col E R Bradley's stable provided his first Derby memory in 1921.
Alabama voters, likely under 150000, will vote in a Democratic primary with low statewide interest. The race features U S Senator John H Bankhead and H L Anderton in tight contention, while national committee seats draw debate over delegate selection and roles.
The annual Florence Nightingale service will be held May 10 at 8 p m at Church of the Advent Birmingham. Rev Charles Clingman now Bishop of Kentucky will address the nurses. Graduate nurses of the district are urged to attend in uniform and arrive early for marching into the church. Friends of nurses are invited as well.

Louisville notes the 62nd Kentucky Derby field at Churchill Downs with Brevity as 7 to 5 favorite alongside Dnieper and Silas among twenty entrants. Charles Bell well known farmer of Austinville died at 8715 last night at Baugh's Infirmary. Funeral services set for 1:30 p m Sunday at Austinville Methodist Church with Rev. Horace Kable and others. Burial at Andrews Chapel with extensive survivors listed including five daughters, four sons, two stepdaughters, six stepsons, two sisters, two brothers, and numerous grandchildren.
Heavy rains and wind struck Elk City Oklahoma on May 1 causing one presumed drowning, five injuries, and six farm families missing. A man possibly George H Bates from Chicago was swept away on a bridge over Elk Creek while rescue crews searched isolated farms south of town. H C Cotton and his family suffered injuries when their rented home was demolished.
Hal sted L. Ritter, ousted as judge of the federal district court, continued to occupy his offices in Miami on May 1. Observers believed he would not accept the impeachment verdict as final. No comment from Ritter or his attorney Carl T. Hoffman was available. Hoffman's statement was expected within days.
Lula Mae McConnell, 23, wife of a Chattanooga theater manager, died after a brutal attack in her apartment. Police found a bloodstained scene with a broken jaw and head injuries. Witnesses and nurses describe a white assailant. no motive or entry point determined.
Three Mobile girls missing since April 21 were found in Napoleonville Louisiana and returned home. Genevieve Bradford 16 Annie Liberatto 15 and Madeline Taylor 14 said they were riding around with no destination and were located by officers yesterday.
The Woman's Music Study Club of Decatur will present an organ and vocal program at Central Baptist Church Sunday afternoon to inaugurate Music Week. The club offers a single program this year and invites the public to attend.
