The state tax commission reports uncertainty over the weight basis law as House bills 107 and the Bains measures loom. Probate officials will not issue new receipts or tags after April 1 except for delinquents, until the legislation is settled.
Mrs. Cora Lee Eaton of 209 West Market Street swallowed a half ounce of carbolic acid at 8 30 this morning, was taken by Brown's ambulance to Benevolent Hospital where she regained consciousness and rests fairly well though doctors deem her condition very serious with a chance of recovery.
President Roosevelt asked Congress to provide federal supervision of investment securities and to invoke federal power to regulate interstate securities. He emphasized public losses from unethical practices and proposed legislation governing purchase and sale of traded properties and reforms for banks and corporations.
Washington March 29 AP officials said regulations to reduce veterans compensation are ready but await review by veterans organizations. The action falls under the economy emergency act. A 15 percent salary cut for government employees was ordered to take effect Saturday by Roosevelt.

Members expect to include provisions guaranteeing cost of production and fair farmer return. Draft ideas call for government price fixing with a fixed price to be paid by the original buyer.
Lucille Stallings an 18 year old was shot to death while in a garden near her Oakman home in Jasper Alabama. The aged couple Mr and Mrs Romine were jailed pending investigation after witnesses said the elder woman fired from a back fence when the girl looked up. The dispute between the two families began five months earlier.
James Morrison of Mr Hope was brought to Dr A M Roans' office on Tuesday with a broken leg. X rays showed a fracture, it was set, and he returned home. The injury was caused by a log falling across his leg.
In Alabama on March 29 a movement to legalize 3.2 percent beer gained momentum after the Mullins repeal bill passed the veto. Representative Leney S. Robinson began gathering 21 signatures in the House Ways and Means Committee. The House voted to override the governor on the measure, with 66 lawmakers in favor and 28 against. The Senate had previously approved the repeal bill by a 26 to 0 margin.

Dr. Willa Lewis Dinsmore, a prominent North Alabama physician and longtime civic leader, died last night at Benevolert Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at First Methodist Church, with burial in the city cemetery. Brown’s Funeral Home in charge.
Deputies Walton Kilgore and Wil loughby Jenkins captured an 180 gallon copper still and arrested a man who gave the name Ed McNutt in a raid at Village Creek between Decatur and Hartselle Tuesday morning. McNutt was sent to Huntsville jail to await a whiskey manufacturing hearing. A second man fled, a horse stood nearby with reins over its saddle, and six barrels of beer were found.
Luther Atkinson of East Decatur was found unconscious with head wounds after a Tuesday night altercation at a house on Olive Street. Police say two other men were involved. no arrests had been made.
