Washington March 27 a startling rise in narcotic addicts among youths was reported to the senate crime investigating committee. Harry Anslinger said illegal drugs were smuggled from Italy Turkey China and Japan. He cited a Lexington Ky hospital rise from 3 to 200 addicts under 21 and warned high school students are increasingly involved. Riverside Calif March 27 Search intensified for 18 year old Doris Trask Cook mother of an eight month old after her husband Richard Cook was found shot to death on a lonely road police questioned Sgt Lawrence J Walker of March Air Force Base on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon. A sheriff s posse hunted the area where the car was found 10 miles south of Riverside as bumper bolts matched Walkers car and the green color fender matched the victim s car. Walker said his car fender was damaged in Hollywood last week.

Two Children Burned When One Trips Percolator

Hungry lion crashes cage at Palm Springs party with movie stars
A hungry lioness escaped her cage at a circus costume ball in Palm Springs and cavorted among Allan Jones Renaldo Ferrari and Earl Tiesen for about 15 minutes before handlers corralled her. The incident occurred at Rogers Ranch club during a birthday party for Stewart Hopps. The animal prowled the grounds then headed to the kitchen before being returned to captivity.

Tragic Crash Near Hartselle Leaves Mule Killed and Boy Injured
A late Monday crash two miles east of Hartselle on Highway 33 left a mule dead and a 16 year old boy with a broken arm. Driver Howard Dooley, 27, Cullman, was jailed on drunken driving charges after his 1951 GMC ton and a half truck ran into a two horse wagon driven by Percy Brown, 54, damaging the wagon and property totaling about 400 dollars.
