He said privately owned utilities could match TVA prices and that wholesale rates to cooperatives and municipal utilities run about two mills per kilowatt hour below efficient peers. He noted consumer count rose from 710000 to 810000 in the last year as skeptics persist.
Senate air power advocates led by Senator Lodge press to raise the postwar air force to 70 combat groups and widen draft terms. They criticize the 3.448 billion preparedness plan as insufficient and urge universal training and reactivation of broader mobilization to counter Russia.

Dick Berryhill’s black and gray 1941 Buick coach special also missing from Culver’s Cleaners area. Authorities from Highway Patrol, city police, and county are investigating. Berryhill owner reachable at 944 M. Ball, jailed earlier, linked to Berryhill theft case.
Richard Smallwood, 61, was convicted of murder and sentenced to death for the February 10 shooting of 15 year old Nona Faye Dockery in a Tuscaloosa cafe. He is also indicted in the slaying of the girl's mother, May Dockery. Kilby prison electric chair date set for May 2. automatic appeals apply under Alabama law.
W. Larue Horn, longtime chief of Governor James E. Folsom's staff of special investigators, was reassigned to the state Revenue Department. He becomes a principal administrative assistant to Revenue Commissioner J. A. Stephens at a salary of 425 dollars a month, down from 441.66 dollars as head of the governor's special investigations unit.

William M Bekars sentenced a 28 year old white woman to six months in jail and fined 500 for carrying a pistol without a permit. She faces 140 more days unless the fine is paid. A patrolman testified the weapon was unloaded. Bekars had recently fined three Black men 100 each for similar charges.
