A U S Army communique reports heavy American air raids on Japan's Burma bases over two days. Medium bombers struck Meiktila airfield and its warehouse district, with many fires started. The operation targeted the Meiktila airfield in a raid described as highly successful.
The army reports two thousand sacks of mail destined for American troops overseas were lost in recent weeks due to the sinking of United Nations ships by enemy action.

In Denver March 2 a governor orders immediate halt to inductions of agricultural workers, directing Colorado Selective Service to stop draft boards from drafting farmers and farm workers, raising questions of federal versus state authority.
A bipartisan Senate coalition pushed back farm bloc lines to send a house backed bill to parity price ceilings for all farm labor costs to the Agriculture Committee. United Mine Workers leader John L. Lewis clashed with Senator Ball during the Senate War Investigations Committee session. Ball labeled Lewis's claim that miners face dietary deficiencies as demagoguery, prompting Lewis to defend his testimony and demand proper opportunity to prove his statements.
