Weather outlook for the state notes pleasant afternoon and evening, with a slow warmup into Tuesday and coastal winds turning Southeasterly. Local cotton market quotes middling and strict low grade at 35.75 and 34.75 respectively amid a day cooled from a weekend high.
The White House says the Army will control American sectors of Germany Austria and Trieste indefinitely underscoring a hard line against Soviet expansion. The Western powers boycott Russia in Berlin signals a fight to keep control of the capital.
James M. Long reports from Jerusalem that a provisional Jewish government will be set up in the Holy Land as tensions rise over governance and territorial control during March.
The danger of major floods in stricken river communities eased with no heavy rain in flood areas across New York state and Pennsylvania and several Midwest states. Snow fell in the Northwest while swollen rivers receded, though thousands remained homeless and highways and lowlands remained covered.
A tornado crossed Mecklenburg near the South Carolina line then moved northeast over Salisbury High Point and Greensboro, finally dissipating in Virginia. Eastern Airlines pilots relayed warnings as trees and power lines were damaged. one man, David Henderson, suffered a hand injury when a roof was lifted off a home.
Phil Stanford, 43, owner of an automobile agency, and R. E. Bishop, 27, parts manager, were killed when their four place plane owned by Stanford crashed about ten miles southwest of Fowler Indiana. Bishop usually piloted the craft though both were qualified pilots. State troopers and civil aeronautics officials investigated the overcast crash.

Four persons escaped injury in two collisions on Danville Road and Johnston Street in Decatur. A Decatur Transit taxi driven by E V Wallace hit by a Mutual Savings Life Insurance pick up driven by Joe Morris after Wallace slowed for fallen boxes. In a second crash, Mrs Sara Chapman’s car and John W Lee’s car collided at Johnston Street and Fourth Avenue causing unspecified damage.
President Truman moved on the coast strike today and urged speed in obtaining a federal court injunction to curb the mine walkout led by John L. Lewis. An inquiry board under Taft-Hartley was ordered to report by April 5, with details likely to influence court action and potential penalties for noncompliance.
In Rome Georgia police stopped mass fights involving about 175 pickets and non-strikers of the Anchor Rome textile mills. Six workers faced assault with intent to murder charges. two women among them. Additional peace warrant arrests followed.

John Adkins a 40 year old garage operator won the Dothan Alabama city commission race in the Democratic primary defeating Bracewell a retired dentist by 899 to 701 while the primary was held yesterday in Dothan Alabama.
Director Frank Boswell invites the public to a 10 a.m. April 2 mass meeting at Kilby prison to review conditions and his report that prisons manufacture criminals daily. He urges rigid segregation, separate teen housing, and narcotics reform. The event is described as nonpolitical and will include a barbecue.
Maynard Layman and Castor presented to the Alabama Agricultural Center Board in Montgomery. Haygood Paterson presided as Commissioner of Agriculture. Decatur leaders urged cost-efficient construction for the North Alabama Coliseum with $60,000 set aside—$40,000 state funds and $20,000 from Decatur. A site on the Courtland highway has been purchased. Another Center Board session is set for April 8–9 to hear further Decatur input on prefabricated and quonset building options.
