Write-Ins main on Oregon May 28 primary ballot
Rockefeller invited members of the draft Rocke feller movement in Oregon to meet with him in New York next weekend. An aide said they asked to ap prise the governor of their efforts before he decides whether to take his name off the Oregon. A card would be mailed to each applicant telling them how many food stamps they were entitled to for that amount of money distribution points could be set up in Decatur Hart selle and possibly Falkville where the officials of the cities would be authorized to issue the stamps upon presentation of the card. Morgan County has been one of only three counties in Alabama without either a food stamp or commodities program. The others were Tuscaloosa and Chambers but Hunt and Wilson are slated to meet with Tuscaloosa officials today to discuss the stamp program. Nineteen Alabama counties are already participating in the Food stamp program while a total of 1 200 of the nations 3 300 counties are involved. The other 42 Alabama counties are enrolled in the commodities program. Morgan County withdrew from the commodity program almost a decade ago because of what Roberts called lack of control. He said at the time of the withdrawal a total of 16 000 of Morgan county's 60 000 plus population at that time were signed up for commodities. When final preparations for the program here are made the board will make application to district director Ruben Smith who in turn will forward the request to the Federal Agricultural Department. A similar program started in a nearby Tennessee county recently took four months to begin but the average time for initiation is about six months officials say.
