State begins free tolls as Bay Bridge sale to state proceeds
Governor Bibb Graves announced that the Cochrane bridge at Mobile would be toll free at midnight under a circuit court order. Alabama will purchase the 14 mile span across Mobile Bay after Judge Claude Cochrane signed the sale order. Negro Held For Slaying In Huntingdon Case
In Huntingdon a 23 year old Black man, Bill Jack Bledsoe, surrendered to authorities around 5 am after a fatal wounding of George Sanford, a 40 year old plantation overseer. Sheriff M J McLemore said Bledsoe was rushed to a different town for safety as posses from Carroll and Gibson counties pursued him. Bledsoe admitted the shooting, claiming self defense after an argument over returning to the farm to move tools.
