Decatur establishes a new civic group named the Decatur Boosters Club with Morrell unanimously chosen as first president. The organization aims to promote city expansion and development along industrial and commercial lines.
The United States has not assented to sending a military expedition into Siberia and protests against Japan’s Siberian plans are unfounded. Officials say there will be no serious friction with Russia and the policy toward Japan remains unclear as diplomatic speculation continues.
The Decatur Boosters Club organized at city hall elected H. L. Morrell as president Foster H. Pottier as vice president and W. E. Roper as secretary treasurer Morrell, connected with Tennessee Valley Bank, led the formation and plans for development were discussed Mayor James A. Nelson reported progress on the Decatur passenger station with material in yards and early work planned.
Washington reports an imminent announcement on the date for the next draft. The provost marshal general's office prepared an important notice about the second levy, with most predicting a first group moving to camp in April. Congress delays publication awaiting amendments to the selective service act.
Decatur chapter No. 38 to meet in special convocation at 7 30 PM to confer the Royal Arch degree.

The Wisconsin assembly passed the Wilcox amendment and the loyalty resolution censuring Senator La Follette by a 58 to 82 vote. An amendment urging the US Senate to finish its investigation and act was defeated 45 to 41.
A. H. Lamon was returned to stand trial after arrest for burglarizing the S. Spielberger store. Chief W. D. Cobb escorted him to Morgan county jail. Recovered property includes multiple garments, cash, and jewelry. The coat tied to J. W. Carl of West Decatur was found at the store.
The Thompson Drug Company a Sheffield based venture opened beside the Sheffield post office. A D Givens will manage and announce a formal opening date next week. Ownership rests with S M Thompson and T A Bowles of Albany and Mr Givens of Sheffield.
A circular from Director General Wm. G. McAdoo predicts a wage raise for about 2,000 L&N shop employees. Raises become effective January 1, with overtime possible during wartime. Safeguards for public and workers apply. prewar position rules remain, and no arbitrary enforcement is allowed.
In France on March 5 the first enemy aircraft in days crossed low over American lines but was driven off by Yankee anti aircraft fire. Patrols remained active though artillery was light. An observation balloon was sent up daily as No Man's Land stays snowbound and rear areas thaw into mud.
Albany Board of Commerce offers a $5 Baby Bond for the best slogan promoting the city. Slogan must be six words or fewer and include Albany, Alabama. Entries due by Tuesday noon March 12, to the Board of Commerce office.
In four special elections across Greater New York, Democrats won seats to fill resignations. New York women cast 21 858 of 78 192 total votes, voting early with clear decisiveness. Winners were Jno J Delane Kings County seventh district William E Cleary eighth district Jerome F Donovan twenty first district Anthony J Griffin twenty second district New York and Bronx counties.
Albany March 6 The assembly voted to ratify the federal prohibition amendment. The judiciary committee report was adopted by a 90 to 53 margin.
London March 6 John Redmond leader of the Irish party in the house of commons died today after an operation performed last Sunday. Surgeons described the operation as very severe. Redmond led Ireland’s fight for liberty for 20 years and helped form the Irish Convention in 1917.
Plans firming for Malone Coal Grain Motor Company second annual automobile show at the Malone garage from April 9 to 13. New B L Malone buildings rise beside the present structure and will soon be finished. The rebuilt block aims to boost Lower Second Avenue with white way lighting from Alabama Power. The event is expected to draw large out of town crowds and create a gala local week.
Washington March 6 Drastic orders from the war department aim to stop leakages of sailing information via telegrams. Officers must settle all business before boarding the steamer and may not leave the ship after going aboard. Relatives or friends are banned from the pier area on sailing day.
Washington March 6 American troops in France will have the finest playground in the world to recuperate from trench warfare if Congress passes a bill by Representative Miller of Minnesota. The measure would appropriate 15 million dollars to convert the Riverla in southern France into a recreation camp for the doughboys.
International News Service reports from Copenhagen on March 6 that Petrograd may be abandoned as German forces advance. Bolshevik leadership is seen preparing to move the capital to Moscow, with stores destroyed if not transferable. The Moscow congress on March 12 could approve the move.
London March 6 The British war office reports several successful raids with only slight casualties. On the Cambrai front German forces attempted to penetrate British trenches but were repulsed leaving prisoners in British hands. British troops also captured several machine guns.
The War Department announces decorations for overseas service members, featuring Distinguished Service Crosses and War Service Chevrons. The awards honor acts of signal heroism and wounded heroes as directed by war department offices.
Home Guards expect 25 rifles arriving early in the week to arm the unit. The weapons will be used for the first time at practice tomorrow night.
Washington March 6. A man bill granting the president powers to reorganize the war department was due for its first test today. The opposition planned to submit to the Senate committee a motion to refer to the sub committee.
The converted British cruiser was torpedoed and sunk off the Irish coast on March 1. Only 50 crew members survive, including two officers. The vessel’s tonnage measured 17,515.
