Wallace Delays Lokos Execution For Federal Appeal
Gov. George Wallace refused clemency for Desto John Lokos but postponed his execution to time an appeal to federal court. Lokos and three carnival workers were sentenced to die for the murder of Leonard Culpepper and his wife in Sumter County Alabama. Local officials urged Wallace to uphold the death penalty while Lokos' attorney cites innocence and insanity defenses. Six French divers have lived on the ocean floor for three weeks.
