Purnell Trial May Weigh on Receivers in Michigan
In Purnell's trial the state seeks dissolution of his Israelite colony as a receivership case. Most accusers say the 700 followers are innocent or misled while a few hint at clashing motives. A ruling could keep the group under a receiver with an injunction against King Bes and Queen Mary, but allow later criminal cases against Purnell. Prosecutor Bookwalter plans to press charges of criminal assault against Mrs. Bessie May Woolworth, who led the raid when Purnell was captured last November.
