Bill Would Regularize Retirement for Judges

Limestone Madison Rep. Warren C. Moore pushed a bill from the House State Administration Committee to place all state judges and other judicial staff under the regular employee retirement plan. The measure, with an amendment, applies to judges taking office after Oct. 1, 1977, not those currently serving or elected this year. Moore argues uniformity across the judiciary, noting regular employees contribute 6 percent with a 10 percent state match, vs the 4 and 38 percent under the judiciary system, and cites a projected retirement payout gap.
