Mrs. Kate B. Garth, a Courtland resident who would have reached 104 in September, died this morning at Black Chandler Hospital after illness began Saturday night. She had been hospitalized since then.
Senator Dirksen urged critics to name exact concessions in Viet Nam talks and warned against a South Vietnamese coalition including Communists. He cited the 1954 Geneva accords and their flaws, noting veto power and coalition risks. He withheld details on concessions but suggested Geneva terms could be a settlement basis.

In another crash Wendell Blankenship’s 1964 Chevrolet and Jacky Starline Taylor’s 1962 Buick backed out of parking spaces in the Han D Way Market lot.
Three inmates armed with improvised pistols and a bomb overran the second floor of Western State Penitentiary Hospital Sunday night, taking two guards hostage. Guards used tear gas to end the rebellion, freeing the hostages unharmed. The blast injured inmate Richard Mayberry, 27, who had led a notable Philadelphia riot two years earlier.
The Asian African conference was postponed to November 5 in Algiers after Chinese pressure met strong opposition. A preconference foreign ministers meeting is set for October 28 as unrest and a nightclub explosion influenced the decision amid protests over President Ahmed Ben Bella's ouster.

A Decatur pharmacist, Hugh L. Spriggs 65, was arrested by Morgan County investigators for delivering distributing barbiturates and possibly amphetamines. He posted 500 bond and awaits further charges as another suspect is to be arrested. Officers say about 200 pills were found among Decatur residents, including youths, during the past weekend.
