House Leaders Delay Study Of Draft Bill Amendments
Washington June 28 House leaders order a 10 day delay in considering a bill to defer military training for men who will be 28 or older next July 1 The postponement shifts 28 year olds toward possible induction rather than deferment and stems from urgent appropriation bills and July 4th recess plans. The bill would extend discretionary deferment and grant Roosevelt power to resume defense plant production while barring violence in employment disputes.

Plane output in doldrums delays US Britain war planes
Washington reports aircraft production for the United States and Britain remains in the doldrums through July and August due to shortages of aluminum magnesium and machine tools. May output dropped to 1534 planes from April’s 1989 with new models needing testing and fixes. Officials say supply gaps hinder mass production of parts except power plants.
