An 86-year-old mother, Mrs. Mary Zwald, was killed in her dark kitchen by her 61-year-old son John Zwald who mistook her for a burglar. Investigators ruled accidental death. John, who cared for his mother since 1919, has defective hearing and was found with his mother’s body.

Judge W W Callahan handed down formal sentences to four convicts in a circuit court case. Jim Ortanegro and Wes were told to die in the electric chair on August 27 for White’s slaying, but appeals halted the sentence. Patrolman's Cycle Damaged by Fire
