Wire behind planes cuts aviation static in tests
An aviation lab team led by H. M. Hucke conducted three months of flight tests across the western United States using a trailing wire to reduce radio static. They found static arises from electrical discharges from charged clouds and may be forecast like weather. The wire reduced but may not fully solve the problem. A ground static generator simulated cloud charging for lab experiments.
