Wallace Walking Chances Good After Surgery
Wallace doctors report a 90 percent chance he can move about with assistance within six months after the June 15 operation to remove a bullet from his spinal canal. They expect possible walking with braces and crutches, but less than a 50 percent chance of normal walking. He could stand unassisted and move with braces or crutches, possibly by swinging along, avoiding endless wheelchair use. Wallace was shot May 15 in Laurel, Maryland while seeking the Democratic nomination.
