NEW ORLEANS June 18 The wartime shortage of bananas was explained today by the United Fruit Company which said after delivering ships for expeditionary supply banana imports fell fifty percent. The company noted prewar bananas accounted for about half of U S consumption with Central America and the Caribbean as main sources. Joseph W Montgomery manager said coffee imports from the area rose but banana imports now amount to half of prewar quantities. He added vital exports include bananas coffee coconuts tropical woods hides and that four crops hemp rubber citronella and quinine are being planted to sustain US needs.

Levi Pascal Dolan of Russellville route six died suddenly Tuesday afternoon. He was a farmer in Oak Grove and a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, American Legion, and Methodist church. Services were held at Oak Grove church and he was buried in Oak Grove cemetery. Pallbearers were from the Odd Fellows Lodge.
