New Trial to Be Sought for Morgan in Manslaughter Verdict
Attorneys for Robert Morgan say they will file a motion for a new trial after a circuit court jury found him guilty of first degree manslaughter in the shotgun death of neighbor William Martin last April 24. Morgan, held on bond, had seven years imprisonment fixed, with bond set at 1200. The defense claimed threats and forced entry preceded the fatal shot. Morgan resides at 1822 Fifth Avenue South. Martin at 1824. Several character witnesses testified for Morgan, while the state presented rebuttal witnesses. The jury deliberated about an hour after a 3:30 verdict. Court adjourned other cases to Monday as three murder cases on the docket were set for next week.
