Partly cloudy conditions across the state with a few showers in the far south on Wednesday. Cotton prices showed gains with middling inch at 36.20 and strict low inch at 35.20 on the Decatur market. McRae Motors unveils a new facility at 220 Lee Street with a Nash car display featuring the Nash 600 Ambassador and Suburban. A Nash parade at 11 A M and a footrace offer free service and a chance to win a new Nash at list price. Clyde McRae invites Nash owners to join by registering before 9 30 A M Thursday.
On Wednesday business interests from across Alabama plan to appear before Montgomery lawmakers as they consider removing exemptions from the statewide sales tax a move likely to yield heavier taxation. Delegates listed from Decatur include Ewell K. Gregg John White Kenneth Thomas W J Duncan W F Boswell Jr R W Orr T H Fitzpatrick and possibly others.
Kiev dispatch quotes Soviet UNRRA supplies chief V V Khomyak that aid in Ukraine failed to meet standards due to unfair American firm practices. Paul White, UNRRA mission head, says 000 tons valued at $170,000,000 were received in the Ukraine by June 30.
Donna Mae Randash, the smallest of the Randash quadruplets, died just after midnight about 65 hours after birth. The other three babies, two girls and a boy, are reported in good health. Mother Mrs. Edward Randash is recovering well. The infant weighed one and a half pounds at birth and faced slim odds.
About 10 000 auto workers idled as strike votes occurred among 130 000 Ford employees. The De Soto Wyoming plant faced a disciplinary layoff tied to carelessness in material use. UAW CIO members at Jefferson and Kercheval plant nearby joined in protest, with 3 000 more idled by materials shortages blamed on De Soto group. Continental Motor Corp also faced a 1 200 worker idle. Ford River Rouge workers began ballots amid resumed lines after a week of slowdown. The House upheld President Truman’s veto of the $4 billion tax reduction bill by 268 to 137, two votes short of the two thirds needed to override. Republicans split with 233 voting to override and 35 Democrats. supporters included 134 Democrats, two Republicans, and one American Labor member. The vote ends any immediate Senate action and signals campaign issues for 1948. A separate Senate vote was set on a $35,000 investigation of postmaster appointments.
Rosemarie Erntrudis Von Trapp, 18, youngest member of the famous singing family, vanished Saturday night and was found wandering near a farm house by Mount Mansfield. Her mother said she wandered after being separated on a mountain hike and that the strain of studying may have contributed. Authorities arranged her return home amid relief.
The Alabama senate refused to confirm Rep. Roberts Brown of Opelika to the Auburn board of trustees by an 18 to 15 vote. The decision followed a three month dispute and a prior 19 to 16 motion to oppose confirmation. Senator Bruce Henderson and Senator Preston Clayton led the debate against Brown amid a lengthy session.

New York dispatch says an embargo on loading freight for foreign ports in American ships will likely take effect at 3 PM due to the CIO seamen’s stoppage that has halted hundreds of vessels. Coal shipments to New York Philadelphia and Baltimore ports face limits unless a ship’s sailing is guaranteed not to be delayed by the stoppage.
