Indian Agreement Now Seems Likely
NEW DELHI June 17 Chances rose that the dominant Hindu Congress Party and the Moslem League would accept the British cabinet plan for an interim government to rule India before independence. Wavell proposed five Congress, five Moslem Leaguers and four from smaller groups to start June 26. Gandhi was reportedly unhappy but the Hindustan Times urged favorable consideration. Cripps met Azad to seek clarification on portfolios. The cabinet would include Jinnah Nehru and others, with parity seen as a sticking point. If formed, the new government faces a nationwide rail strike the next day.
