Mrs. T J Williamson 88 longtime Decatur resident underwent hip fracture surgery after a fall at 602 Grant St. at Decatur General Hospital. Attending physician reports her condition as fair. Also noted are local anniversaries and a family visit in Arkansas.
The Tass statement followed the USSR accepting a Geneva conference invitation for July 18. Dulles and allied leaders welcomed it, while Tass suggested no real issues were settled and launched a propaganda drive to sway public opinion in free nations. The piece contrasts Soviet claims with Western concerns over Communist control of Eastern Europe and satellites.
The Alabama Senate cleared a bill to raise TB care funding from 2.50 to 6 dollars per day, remove the patient first payment requirement, and let local contributions join the state funds. The measure passed 31 to 0 and heads to the House, with counties no longer required to cap their support.

Funeral services for the Rev. John R. Turner aged 86 are set for 10 a.m. at W. McCoy Memorial Methodist Church in Birmingham. Turner died Monday in a Birmingham hospital after a six month visit in Orlando with his sisters Annie and Flora Turner. A prominent Methodist minister, he pastored at Central Methodist Church Decatur from 1929 to 1931 and served in Cullman Athens Florence Huntsville and other Birmingham churches. He was born in Verona Mississippi in 1868 and educated in public schools and at the University of Mississippi.
Nashville reports a 1500 strong five state gathering urging action to support TVA self financing. Gov Folsom and Gov Clement led attacks labeling Dixon Yates deal a theft while Clapp accused the administration of undermining TVA and national defense. Kentucky officials backed TVA funding and the South Fulton plant over Dixon Yates.
The House approved a three year extension of the reciprocal trade act and granted the President authority to cut tariffs. The compromise bill sailed through after debate with limited opposition and goes to the Senate for signature by Eisenhower. The measure allows tariff reductions up to 15 percent over three years in exchange for concessions from other nations.
At Lake Junaluska North Carolina college students from nine southeastern states adopted a unanimous resolution by 375 delegates from 90 colleges pledging support for the Supreme Court rulings against segregated public schools and calling for Negroes to be admitted to the pool. Nine Negroes attended the conference and the entire group voted to boycott swimming until integration. The assembly hosts the southeastern Methodist Church summer program and trustees meet July 29 to 31.
President Eisenhower and West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer declared that neutrality cannot apply to Germany. In a White House conference they stressed broad agreement on relations with the Soviet Union and Germany and noted no neutralization path for reunification.
No claimant appeared for the prize, leaving the pot at two hundred seventy five dollars as the likely payout. The humorous note hints at rookie status and home performance while inviting bids on the colorful bonanza seedling.

The amended bill seeks a temporary injunction alleging six months of prohibition violations. The motion argues that the amendment changes the named defendants and grounds for dismissal.
Tennessee River reading at Keller Memorial Bridge this morning was 21.20 feet, up 10 feet in 24 hours. Temperature at 8 a.m. today was 66 degrees. Forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions with widely scattered showers and thundershowers, high near 81, low around 62.
In Buenos Aires a nine hour nationwide strike drew Peronist workers showing loyalty to President Juan Peron amid a feud with the Roman Catholic Church. Workers demonstrated in support of the leader in a politically charged clash with church authorities.
The government in Buenos Aires removed two Roman Catholic bishops from their posts in the Buenos Aires diocese claiming the right under an agreement that designates Catholicism as the state religion.
President Peron urged calm alert and vigilance after a three day wave of demonstrations. He accused clergy of being wolves in sheep's clothing and warned of a strong crackdown. Fresh fighting erupted near Plaza de Mayo as Peronistas clashed with adherents near the Metropolitan Cathedral and Archbishop's Palace.
Singapore saw 2000 taxicabs vanish as drivers joined a Communist backed general strike protesting the arrest of six Chinese union officials. About 80 factories and firms closed and thousands were stranded while all 13 bus lines shut down as 6000 employees walked out.
Democrats and Republicans clashed at a Senate Labor Committee hearing over the legality of questioning Secretary of Welfare Hobby on polio vaccine safety. Mrs. Hobby opposed a Democratic plan for nationwide free vaccination for all children, calling it an all or nothing proposal. She also revealed Eisenhower administration funding for its own freer vaccine program. The Hill measure could cost about 135 million dollars.

Morgan and Limestone counties begin second Salk shots for first and second graders with Morgan shots starting Wednesday at 9 am and Limestone on Thursday at 9 am. Morgan hours are Monday and Wednesday 9 to 1 and 1 30 to 4 while Limestone runs Thursday and Saturday 9 to noon.

Bond set at 1000 dollars as civil suits seek 100000 in Langley estate and Knight action.
