Hoover speech at Ohio Wesleyan probes security vs self reliance
Mackenzie reports former President Herbert Hoover at Ohio Wesleyan University delivered a bold critique of the modern “new era” idea that elevates security over self-reliance. He argued that security removes risk but dulls competition and personal initiative, praising American individualism and warning Britain’s socialist experiment. Hoover traced his own rise from orphan to president and urged the old American creed of equal opportunity. The piece notes upcoming British elections to decide the security versus self-reliance balance.
