Ray Captured After Long Hounds Hunt At Brushy Mountain

James Earl Ray was tracked down by two bloodhounds after a three hour, three mile pursuit through Brushy Mountain terrain. He was found in a leaf pile near the prison five miles away, exhausted and Muddy, offering no resistance. Several other fugitives were captured or identified in the manhunt, including Donald Ray Caylor and Douglas Shelton, while Gov. Blanton praised the seizure as a major breakthrough in one of Tennessee's largest manhunts.

Former Limestone County resident Larry Edward Hacker, 32, linked to the Dawson and Powell gangs, is suspected as the mastermind of the prison escape that freed James Earl Ray. Girls Slain In Sleep At Campout

Three Girl Scouts aged 8, 9, and 10 were found beaten to death in sleeping bags at Camp Scott near Locust Grove Oklahoma. Authorities labeled the deaths as beatings but provided few details on suspects, weapon, or discovery of the scene. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said relatives had to be notified before identities were released. The case prompted the state investigation by the OSBI at the governor’s request.

Dan Barker of Southgate Kentucky died at General Hospital becoming the 162nd victim of the May 28 Beverly Hills Supper Club fire.
