Legislature Completes Medicaid Bail-Out Bill
The Alabama Legislature approved an emergency 9.6 million dollar appropriation to sustain the Medicaid program. The House added about 200 thousand for other needs including 25 thousand for the National Conference of Lieutenant Governors at Point Clear. The Senate faced delays on highway speed limit and adulthood bills, while approving a seven year cap on design defects lawsuits, four year license tags with stickers, and a pay-raise study recommending a 5 percent raise for two years plus higher executive salaries. The report urged raising legislators’ pay to the southern average, about 1800 dollars annually. A separate track weight bill favors small farmers by increasing truck limits to 84,000 pounds with exemptions for two and three-axle agriculture trucks. See LEGISLATURE on Page A-8.
