Vietnamese paratroopers pressed through dense jungle to pursue a Viet Cong force that hit Cong Xoai and an American Special Forces camp. At the North Alabama Methodist Conference held at Birmingham Southern College on Friday, about 21 ministers received new church appointments across four counties. In Decatur, Rev. E. M. Barnes Jr. was named pastor of First Methodist Church, returning as a former Albertville district superintendent and a Birmingham Southern and Emory University graduate.

City Water Plants Win Top Awards in Alabama
Decatur earned two first place awards at the Alabama Water and Pollution Control Association meeting at the University of Alabama. The Waste Water Treatment Plant won Best Operated Plant Award for 1965 for the third year and earned a plaque as a three time winner, auto retiring from competition for three years. The Potable Water Treatment Plant won the 1965 award for a second straight year. Both plants competed against towns over 25 000 population. Operators Harold Kirby and Bobby G Wynn attended the daylong short course at the university.

Child dies after Monday collision near Cullman
An eight year old Falkville girl Virginia Gail Holmes died from injuries after a crash near Cullman this week. State troopers said she was a passenger in a car that collided with a tractor trailer driven by Woodrow Shores of Irvington.
