Grain Prices Push Upward Across 1947 Parity Schedule

The 1947 grain price schedule, issued by the Office of Stabilization and the Office of Price Administration, raises corn by 25 cents per bushel, wheat by 15 cents, oats by 10 cents, and grain sorghums by 18 cents per hundredweight. Officials say world food shortages will persist into 1946 and likely through the 1947 harvest, requiring large grain exports for human consumption and limiting relief to maintain wartime livestock levels. The shift implies less pork, poultry, eggs, and top-grade beer next year while total food supplies stay above prewar levels and price ceilings remain unchanged unless parity changes dictate otherwise.
