Charles W. Sarver aged 66 postmaster and former mayor of Athens died at Limestone county hospital after a head wound. He was found shot in the post office basement around 7:10 am with no reason known. Notes left by Sarver were reported. He had served as postmaster for ten years and lived in Athens more than forty years.
