President Carter accused Congress of buckling to oil and auto lobby power and warned the American people would suffer and pay the price.
A congressional panel rejected Carter's plan to tax cars and gasoline as part of energy measures. Alternatives included a per gallon standby tax and a tax delaying until 1979, with various deductions and rebates for fuel efficient cars and state gasoline taxes.
Morgan County Circuit Court will hold June 20 sessions as planned after the legislature approved emergency funds to cover a 3.7 million shortfall. Chief Justice C. C. Torbett ordered curtailment but will rescind once Gov. George Wallace signs the relief bill. The bill opens funds from the general fund to restore court activity.

The TVA Board of Directors in Knoxville approved a $1.2 million project to build a 25 000 square foot greenhouse near Browns Ferry using plant cooling water for year round crops.
